EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan State University Police revealed that there are three confirmed fatalities in the MSU Campus shooting, in addition to the five victims who have been transported to the hospital.

“So we are very saddened to report that there has been an incident on the campus of Michigan State University,” Chris Rozman, Interim Deputy Chief Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety said, “There have been multiple shots fired and a shooting in multiple locations near campus.”

Rozman stressed that the information is preliminary, and that the priority of the department’s law enforcement, in conjunction with state and federal law enforcement, is the safety of the MSU students and campus.

“The information that we are sharing may change, but we are going to be as transparent as we can and share as much information as we can, but that information may change because it is preliminary,” Rozman said.

According to Rozman, the shooting started around 8:18 pm at the Berkey Hall and was accompanied by multiple 911 calls of a shooting within the hall.  Officers arrived within minutes of the calls and located several victims of the shooting.

“The incident did move to a building in close proximity, the Michigan State University union building where there was another report of a shooting immediately following the first incident,” Rozman said.

After police and Emergency Medical Services found the victims, they were transported away.  Law Enforcement responded with an overwhelming presence to help with the situation.

Rozman confirmed there were at least five victims, and all five were transported to the hospital, but some of the victims did have life threatening injuries.

MSU Police described the single suspect in the shooting incident, with surveillance footage indicating he is a black male, shorter in stature, wearing red shoes, a jean jacket and ball cap. He was last seen leaving the MSU union on foot on the north side of the building.

“Community members on and off campus should remain sheltered in place,” Rozman said, “ For people on campus, please do not come to campus, I cannot say that enough.  For parents, we understand, I can only imagine the emotion that’s involved right now – it’s going to help us, and it’s going to help our response, and it’s going to help us identify the shooter, the less people there are on campus at this point.”

Rozman added that all campus activities are canceled for the next 48 hours.

Rozman encouraged listeners to follow @msupolice the MSU Police Twitter for the most up to date and accurate information. While the investigation is very early on and remains ongoing, the MSU Police Department will release more information at midnight.
