LAKE HURON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Just days after three objects from unknown origins were detected in American airspace, another one was spotted over the waters of Lake Huron on Sunday. An F-16 fighter shot it down and U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman (R-Watersmeet) wants answers.

Bergman tweeted, “I’ve been in contact with DOD regarding operations across the Great Lakes region today. The US military has decommissioned another ‘object’ over Lake Huron. I appreciate the decisive action by our fighter pilots. The American people deserve far more answers than we have.

The altitude of the object was about 20,000 feet and Bergman said it was an “octagonal structure.”

The object was shot down after the FAA had closed off some airspace over Lake Michigan which has since been re-opened.

Rep. Elizabeth Slotkin (D-MI 07) tweeted, “The object has been downed by pilots from the US Air Force and National Guard. Great work by all who carried out this mission both in the air and back at headquarters. We’re all interested in exactly what this object was and it’s purpose.”

Slotkin also tweeted, “We’ll know more about what this was in the coming days, but for now, be assured that all parties have been laser-focused on it from the moment it traversed our waters.”

Governor Gretchen Whitmer tweeted, “Our national security and safety is always a top priority. I’ve been in contact with the federal government and our partners who were tracking an object near our airspace. I’m glad to report it has been swiftly, safely, and securely taken down. The Michigan National Guard stands ready.”

US Rep. John James (R-MI 10) tweeted out about the important function of Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township when he tweeted, “There is no longer a question: America must have air defense in Michigan before it’s too late.”
