Woman Accused in Hit-and-Run Death of MSU Student Returned to U.S. Custody

EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A woman accused of fleeing to Thailand after allegedly killing an MSU student in a hit-and-run on New Year’s Day has returned to the U.S.

Officials say 57-year-old Tubtim “Sue” Howson is in custody while she awaits a detention hearing Tuesday that would clear the way for her return to Michigan. She faces state and federal charges related to the death of 22-year-old MSU student Benjamin Kable.

Howson is a dual citizen of both the United States and Thailand. She faces a faces a federal charge of interstate flight to avoid prosecution and a state charge of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death.

A conviction on either charge carries up to five years in prison.
