LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source)-A new Michigan House bill would recommend that Michigan students be taught cursive handwriting. The Michigan Department of Education would be asked to develop a cursive handwriting instruction plan, which would be made available to public schools in the 2024-2025 school year. The most recent standards in the state do not mandate that cursive be taught in schools. Many local Catholic schools have kept cursive on the syllabus for elementary students, saying that it promotes discipline and teaches students to slow down and write deliberately.
