EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – East Lansing High School’s principal has officially resigned after being off since January 25 for personal reasons.

The district said Shannon Mayfield handed in his letter of resignation last week. He was hired as principal last summer.

District officials said Ashley Schwarzbek will remain as Interim Principal and Jeff Lampi will serve as Interim Associate Principal until long-term leadership decisions are made in the spring.

The embattled school district has faced a myriad of mounting problems over the last few months including closures due to potential violence and threats, along with a shake up on the school board.
