LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Appeals Court said a jury can decide whether the parents of the Oxford High School shooter are guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter.

James and Jennifer Crumbley are accused of buying the gun for their son which he used in the shooting, and failing to secure it. Prosecutors also argue the couple ignored the mental health needs of their son before the November 2021 shooting, and did not take him home from school after a concerning meeting with administrators over their son’s behavior hours before the shooting.

The court said, “Whether a jury actually finds that causation has been proven after a full trial, where the record will almost surely be more expansive — including evidence produced by defendants — is an issue separate from what we decide today.”

Ehtan Crumbley, who is now 16, pled guilty to terrorism and the murder of four students. He injured seven others. He could face life in prison without parole when sentenced in June.
