DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source)- A heart breaking moment took place for Detroit in the final second as Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams tipped in a missed jumper just before time expired for a 107-106 win over Detroit. The loss is Detroit’s 60th of the year which is the worst in the NBA behind Houston’s 18-59 record.

With 7.1 seconds left, a jump ball was called on OKC’s end between Eugene Omoruyi and OKC’s Luguentz Dort that the Thunder won. OKC’s Josh Giddy had a driving layup off the jump ball that he missed but the Williams was right there on the left side of the rim to tip it in for the win. Detroit threw a long shot down the court as they had no timeouts left as time expired handing them their 60th loss.

Jaden Ivey was one assist shy of a double-double with 24 points and nine assists. James Wiseman did record a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Omoruyi added 14 points. Corey Joseph gave 13 points as R.J. Hampton had 12 points and Killian Hayes 11 points. Detroit shot 50 percent from the floor and 48 percent from the arc making 16 three-pointers. They missed four free throws going 10-of-14. They held OKC, who is 38-39, to just 44 percent shooting and 34 percent from three-point land. Detroit also won the rebounding battle, 42-38.

After a tie of 26 to end the first quarter, Detroit scored 30 points in the second quarter for a two-point lead at the half, 36-34. Ivey made two free throws with 38.1 seconds left in the half for the two-point lead and then held OKC scoreless in that final 30 seconds.

OKC bounced back for a four-point lead at the end of the third quarter, 84-80, as Detroit played from behind in the fourth. They tied the game at 100 on an Ivey three-pointer at 3:37 but was down five, 105-100, with 1:34 left to play. Omoruyi went 1-of-2 from the line with 50 seconds left to pull Detroit within two, 105-103. It was 36 seconds later, after Detroit received the ball back after an OKC turnover, that Joseph hit the go-ahead shot with 14.1 seconds left, 106-105. After OKC’s Giddey missed a layup with eight seconds left, the jump ball was called that led to the game winning tip-in.

The two worst teams in the NBA will play on Friday in Detroit as the Pistons host Houston at 8:00 p.m.
