DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source)-David Perron scored a hat trick in the third period to propel Detroit to a 7-4 win breaking open the game after a 4-4 tie.  Perron now has 19 goals on the year as Detroit moves to 32-32-9 and has an 18-15-4 record at home.

Detroit scored their first three goals in five minutes in the first period. Jonatan Berggren scored on a power play at 11:03 for the 1-0 lead. It was 34 seconds later that Andrew Copp netted his ninth goal of the year making it 2-0. Dominik Kubalik pushed the lead to three at 16:07 with assists from Gustav Lindstrom and Jordan Oesterle.

The second period didn’t go the same way for Detroit as the momentum switched to Pittsburg. They scored three goals in a four minute time span to tie the game at three. Goals came at 4:40, 7:46, and 8:41 to tie the game.

Perron broke the tie game in the third at 4:05 on for his first of three goals on a Dylan Larkin assist. A minute and a half later, the Penguins tied the game again at four. Almost 11 minutes went by before Perron collected his second goal on a power play at 16:20 to move Detroit ahead, 5-4. The hat trick came less than a minute later at 17:05 as Larkin once again found Perron for the third goal and a 6-4 lead. Larkin gained his 27th goal of the year on an empty net at 19:23 making it 7-4.

Detroit will host Carolina on Thursday, March 30th, for their next game.
