HILLSDALE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will make his way to Michigan on Thursday, and his presence has riled up the Democrat base in the state.

Several emails from the Michigan Democrat Party referred to DeSantis as a “dangerous” man who is “bringing his extremist views to Michigan today.”
In a press call on Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, State Senator Erika Geiss (D-Taylor), and Dr. Amy Marcotte “slammed” DeSantis and his pro-life views.
“We will not stand for MAGA extremists like Ron DeSantis trying to impose his far-right agenda on our state,” said Gilchrist.
The press call came just hours after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a repeal of the state’s 1931 abortion ban. The ban criminalized abortion and allowed prosecutors to charge doctors and nurses who performed abortions.
“DeSantis has shown that he’ll go to any length to out-MAGA the 2024 GOP field with his dangerous agenda – even banning abortion in Florida before many women know they are pregnant,” said Sen. Geiss. “Make no mistake – this is the agenda he wants to implement nationwide and it is far too dangerous and extreme for Michigan.”
Dr. Amy Marcotte spoke on behalf of parents.

“Today, I think of my patients here in Michigan and I’m relieved they can come to me and to my clinic for the care they need because of leaders like Governor Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist. I’m also thinking of the countless patients in Florida who don’t know where to turn as they watch Republicans in power further chip away at their ability to access reproductive care.”
While DeSantis has stopped short of officially declaring a 2024 bid for the White House, some speculate he will throw his hat in the ring.
Based on this, Democrats appear afraid that if elected, DeSantis will enact “extreme” abortion laws in Michigan. However, a June 2023 U.S. Supreme Court decision returned federal abortion rights to individual states.
DeSantis will speak Thursday night at 7:30 at Hillsdale College and will be livestreamed here.
