BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Residents in Big Rapids are pushing back against a proposed Gotion electric vehicle battery plant with ties to a Chinese company.

The rally is Wednesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. on the campus of Ferris State University. The Muskegon County Republican Executive Committee  said participants should meet on the sidewalk in front of Williams Auditorium and bring their homemade “no” signs.

Last fall, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that two electric vehicle plants with ties to China would be created in Marshall and Big Rapids. Funding for the projects come from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which is taxpayer funded.

State Senator Lana Theis (R-Brighton) told The Steve Gruber Show on Wednesday that the so-called $715 million investment that impacts Michigan’s economy and its security.

“We are paying dearly for the privilege of having a massive physical and security risk in our state and our governor seems to be fully embracing them.

According to documents cited by Sen. Theis, Gotion operates under state allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party.
