MARQUETTE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Seven counties in the Upper Peninsula are receiving assistance the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) after flooding damaged homes and roads there last month.

FEMA will visit Alger, Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Marquette and Ontonagon Counties. The main reason for the visit coming is to evaluate damaged homes and buildings and find effective ways to fix them.

The Salvation Army of Marquette County has provided services to 149 homes and assisted with water, cleaning supplies, flood kits and H20 purification kits. Officials said many households lost furniture.

Rapidly melting snow in April caused flooding to wash out roads and damage homes in the U.P. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for those counties on April 21.
