The Michigan Senate approved two bills on Tuesday that passed in the House earlier this year.
Some people oppose “conversion therapy” because they say it aims to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity with the goal of “converting” them to be heterosexual.
The passage of the bills come during Pride Month, a time set aside where the LGBTQ+ group demands acceptance and celebration of their lifestyle.
Similar bills have passed in 22 other states. The legislation does not apply to religious institutions. Whitmer is expected to sign the bills.
