Allie Herkenroder represents Flint’s Seventh Ward. She will be leaving on July 1. Voters elected her in November 2021. She said the reason for stepping down stems from personal health reasons.

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said that seventh ward residents will not go unrepresented and that a replacement for Herkenroder will be sought after the resignation becomes official.

Recently, the Flint City Council has gone through some rough patches. The council failed to vote on the budget earlier this month, missing the deadline required by the city charter. The council held a special meeting finalizing the budget three days later.

Last month, Neeley cited credible threats as a reason he is driving around in an unmarked police car. However, Neely has yet to clarify why an unmarked police car provides safety or how the city is funding it. First Ward Councilman Eric Mays wants the vehicle moved to the mayor’s budget since other city officials pay for their own vehicles and gas.

In addition, the city is no longer allowing residents to park in the city hall parking garage citing similar security concerns.
