The automaker has asked some departments to work remotely this week so people who are losing their jobs can be informed in private. Company spokesman T.R. Reid says salaried workers will have individual meetings to determine their employment status.

Ford laid off 3,000 employees last August. The automaker employs 174,000 people globally.

The layoff announcement comes as Ford continues its push forward on its Blue Oval project in Marshall. That project is in conjunction

with Chinese-based CATL and has the support of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Many Marshall residents are pushing back on the project and seeking recalls of certain city officials.
