OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. (Michigan Back Roads) – Labyrinths are found around the world. They have been constructed since ancient times. There is a truly beautiful one right here in Michigan. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth is a continuous circuit and you cannot get lost. Pilgrims entering the great cathedrals of France during the middle ages walked the labyrinths inlaid in the cathedral floor to prepare them for the sacred experience they were about to participate in.
The Lavender Labyrinth is in the area of Oceana County known as Little Point Sable. World famous as a destination for sun and sand, this area is also home to rich farm lands and a long agricultural heritage. The Lavender Labyrinth is open to everyone and is in full bloom in July and August. The labyrinth is on the grounds of Cherry Point Farm west of Hart and is a perfect place to walk amid lavender, rocks and wildflowers.

The labyrinth, which takes about an hour to walk, is open to anyone: church groups, herb societies, drumming circles or individuals seeking new experiences. There is no charge, and reservations are not needed. Even if you don’t have the hour, it is worth taking a look just to enjoy the sheer beauty of the labyrinth.
