LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Six Republican lawmakers in Lansing have introduced a package of bills that would make Michigan a “Constitutional Carry” state.
Representatives Angela Rigas, Andrew Beeler, Jay DeBoyer, Bryan Posthumus, Mike Hoadley, and Joseph Fox are putting forth House Bills 4710-4715. It’s a reintroduction of similar measures by previous legislatures. The last time a package like this turned up in Lansing was in 2019.

Rep. Rigas said the package of bills would allow Michigan to join 27 other states in implementing “Constitutional Carry” laws for gun owners.
“I am proud to stand with my colleagues and to introduce such important Legislation to the House,” Rigas said. “I’d like to ask that we all use this moment to pause and ask ourselves: what kind of state do we truly want to build her in Michigan? My vote is for a free state. This is a step in that direction.”
The package of bills would allow individuals who legally own a pistol to legally carry it in spaces where either open carry or concealed pistol license holders are currently allowed.
This legislation would also remove the “duty to inform” clause, which provides penalties if an individual fails to notify law enforcement that they are in possession of a licensed concealed weapon.
Rep. Posthumus pushed back on additional regulation in Michigan. “It does little to nothing to prevent gun violence and distracts from real-world solutions like mental health and law enforcement investments,” he said. “Our package doesn’t put any more guns in circulation than already exist. It simply washes away an erroneous policy and reduces the ability of this government to overreach — as it has been so willing to do under the current administration.”
In addition, representatives say the Constitutional Carry bills aren’t solely about gun rights. They say it also communicates a message about freedoms and regulations, which are stifling the business atmosphere in Michigan currently.
