DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Continuing to bolster their roster for a playoff run next season, Detroit added nine prospects and had two trades on the last day of the NHL Draft. Detroit had three picks in the second round trading one for two more picks.

They started the day drafting goalie Trey Augustine at the no. 41 pick and then followed with Andrew Gibson at no. 42. They traded their no. 43 pick to Nashville for their no. 47 and no. 147 picks. At the no. 47 pick, they took Brady Cleveland and then acquired center Kim Kostin and right win Kailer Yamamoto from Edmonton for an exchange for future considerations.

At the no. 73 pick, Detroit went with Noah Dower-Nilsson and then added another defenseman in Larry Keenan at the 117th pick of the fourth round. In the fifth round, they took Jack Phelan at no. 137 and left win Kevin Bicker at no. 147.

The six round brought a pick goaltender Rudy Guimond at no. 169 and centerman Emmitt Finnie at no. 201 in the seventh round.

Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman talked about his strategy of building the Red Wings through the draft saying, “Again, just add to the pool of prospects and hope some of them turn into NHL players at one point.”
