EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Larry Nassar, who is serving his time in the United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida, was reported to have been stabbed 10 times on Sunday in an altercation at the prison. Nassar is serving time after being convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts.

A source with knowledge of the details told ESPN that Nassar was stabbed twice in the neck. Two other people familiar with the incident but not authorized to publicly discuss it said Nassar was in stable condition. He was also stabbed in the chest and back.

According to ESPN when they contacted the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the prison said that “we can confirm on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at approximately 2:35 p.m. that an inmate was assaulted at the United States Penitentiary (USP) Coleman II. Responding staff immediately initiated life-saving measures. Staff requested Emergency Medical Services and life-saving efforts continued. The inmate was transported by EMS to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.”

Nassar was sentenced in 2017 for child pornography charges for 60 years. A year later, he had 40 to 175 years added in prison for sexually assaulting gymnasts, including Olympic medalists. He received an additional 40 to 125 years in a Michigan State Prison after pleading guilty to an additional three counts of sexual assault in Eaton County.

He admitted to sexually assaulting athletes at MSU and on the USA Gymnastics team.
