LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Multiple media outlets are reporting that actor Hill Harper, a Detroit resident, could throw his hat in the ring for U.S. Senate.

Harper, who is known for roles on “CSI: NY,” “The Good Doctor,” and “How It Really Happened” is inching toward a potential Senate run in 2024 when current sitting U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D) retires.
Politico reports that Harper, a Democrat, is putting the final touches on a campaign launch that is still a few weeks away.
Harper’s announcement could shake up the Democratic stronghold on Michigan’s Senate representation. Both seats have held Democrats for decades, including current Senator Stabenow and Gary Peters, along with late Senator Carl Levin.
In addition, Democrat Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who won the fiercely contested 7th Congressional District race in November 2022, has been speculated to be the most likely person to follow in Stabenow’s footsteps.
Harper has not run for public office before, but some are speculating the African-American could draw in black voters. He has ties to former President Barack Obama from their Harvard Law days and served on the President’s Cancer Panel in 2012.
Besides Slotkin, the other announced Democratic candidates include former state Rep. Leslie Love, businessman Nasser Beydoun, Michigan State Board of Education president Pamela Pugh, and attorney Zack Burns.
