DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – After a strong NHL Draft Class, the Detroit Red Wings have added three more players for the 2023 season. Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman brought in former Colorado Avalanche left win J.T. Compher, defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, and former Arizona Coyote forward Christian Fischer. In all, Yzerman added nine free agents and three unrestricted free agents in a two day time span.

One of the biggest free agents to sign was Compher from Colorado with a five-year $5.1 million contract. The 2022 Stanley Cup champion has played in 423 NHL games and was with the Avalanche from 2016. Last season he had 17 goals, 35 assists, and 52 points. The former University of Michigan player was a second round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Gostisbehere comes to Detroit from the Coyotes and will be on a one-year contract worth $4.125 million. He played 52 games for Arizona and had 31 points with 28 penalty minutes. He then spent the last part of the season with Carolina adding 10 points in 23 games helping the Hurricanes to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Forward Fischer signed a one-year contract with an average annual value of $1.125 million. This past season he was with the Coyotes and recorded 27 points with 20 penalty minutes in 80 games. The Chicago, Ill., native was a second round draft pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

The Red Wings roster will look different from 2022 and will be Derek Lalonde’s second season for Detroit.
