ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Alexander and Hornung meat processing plant located in St. Clair Shores is shutting down, according to an announcement from its operators.

The closure was communicated to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity in a letter earlier this week. With a workforce of over 130 employees, most of them will face permanent layoffs on October 14th.

A small group of senior staff members may continue until potentially early January. The company did not offer a specific explanation for the plant’s closure. The plant has been a presence in the Metro Detroit area for seven decades.
