DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Picketing UAW members in Detroit are expecting two visitors this week – President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

President Biden announced his plans on Friday to visit Detroit just a few hours after UAW President Shawn Fain encouraged him to walk the picket line.

“Tuesday, I’ll go to Michigan to join the picket line and stand in solidarity with the men and women of UAW as they fight for a fair share of the value they helped create,” Biden wrote on social media.

The Democrat Party has long touted itself as the party of the union, but Trump is pushing back on that claim. The former president’s Wednesday visit has been planned for more than a week after he announced he would skip the second debate in lieu of standing in solidarity with union members. He will meet with 500 workers at Drake Enterprises, an auto supplier in Clinton Township.

The UAW is entering its second week of its “Stand Up Strike” against the Big 3. On Friday, Fain announced that GM and Stellantis needed more “pushing” at the bargaining table, so a strike of 38 parts distribution facilities across 20 states would get underway.

Among other things, the UAW is demanding a 32-hour work week and increased pay.
