EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan State University has officially terminated head football coach Mel Tucker, citing inappropriate conduct.

MSU Athletic Director Alan Haller responded to a 12-page document from Tucker’s lawyers and said, “Your unconvincing rationalizations and misguided attempt to shift responsibility cannot and do not excuse your own behavior,” Haller wrote in a letter to Tucker on Wednesday. “Had you not engaged in this inappropriate and unprofessional conduct, the University would not be subject to public disrespect and ridicule regarding your actions.”

The unprofessional conduct Haller references stems from a December 2022 filed by rape survivor Brenda Tracy . The details of that report surfaced two weeks ago after a USA Today report detailed a complaint filed against him by Tracy. She and her organization, Set the Expectation, worked with MSU and Tucker after the fallout from the Larry Nassar scandal. Both Tracy and Tucker acknowledged that a friendship became flirtatious, but Tracy said that changed in April 2022 when Tracy said Tucker masturbated on the phone with her. Tucker claims it was consensual phone sex.

Tucker signed a 10-year, $95 million contract with MSU. There is no word yet on whether he will receive a portion of that money as part of a termination agreement.
