LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency in two Macomb County communities after severe thunderstorms and seven tornados ripped through Michigan last month.

New Baltimore and Chesterfield Township are the third expansion of emergency help after the August 24 storms. The state of emergency also covers Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Kent, Livingston, Monroe, and Wayne counties, and the city of South Lyon in Oakland County.

Gov. Whitmer said the action ensures extra resources for these communities.

On August 24, areas in lower Michigan experienced several storm fronts that brought heavy rain, strong winds, and tornadoes. This resulted in road and bridge closures, downed trees, and damage to buildings and homes. The storms also knocked out to power to hundreds of thousands of people for several days.
