LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Election day is right around the corner and election workers conducted a pilot program of early voting in several Michigan communities on Saturday.
The pilot served as an opportunity for the Michigan Department of State, Bureau of Elections, and participating clerks to work out the kinks in advance of the 2024 presidential elections.

Last year, Michigan voters passed Proposal 2 to place expanded voting rights into the state constitution. Among the new requirements, Michigan’s election administrators must offer at least nine days of early voting in their communities starting next year.
Jonathan Brater, Michigan Director of Elections, said, “Because this is the first time we’re testing early voting in Michigan we expect to find areas that may need attention or additional support. This pilot will help us identify what works and what should be adjusted before early voting starts statewide next year.”
Twelve counties and municipalities volunteered to run early voting sites. For a list of thosoe participating communities click here. For general voter information visit the Michigan Voter Information Center.
The results of the pilot program will not be calculated until polls close on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
