According to interim Speaker Patrick McHenry, Republicans will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the nine candidates. An internal vote is slated for Tuesday morning.
House Republicans ousted previous speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy early in October and the chamber cannot move forward in creating or passing legislation until a new House speaker is elected. Majority Leader Steve Scalise withdrew his name from consideration, while Rep. Jim Jordan lost three rounds of voting and was dropped as the nominee last week.
According to his bio, Bergman is the highest ranking combat Veteran to have ever served in the U.S. House and serves as a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
