WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – Rep. Shri Thanedar is taking a stand against his colleagues who refuse to denounce the terrorist acts of Hamas, and he’s breaking ties with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

In a statement from his office, Thanedar said his withdrawl from the group stems from its sponsorship of an anti-semitic rally in New York. He said exiting the DSA serves his “constituents’ interests” since they expect him to “build a better, more just world, not fanning the flames of hatred.”

Thanedar continued, “After the brutal terrorist attacks on Israel, which included the indiscriminate murder, rape, and kidnapping of innocent men, women, and children, I can no longer associate with an organization unwilling to call out terrorism in all its forms. Sunday’s hate-filled and antisemitic rally in New York City, promoted by the NYC-DSA, makes it impossible for me to continue my affiliation. I stand with Israel and its right to defend itself. There is no place for moral equivocation in the face of unadulterated evil as we have seen from Hamas.”

It is noteworthy that Thanedar’s exit from the group also draws a line in the sand between him and colleague Rep. Rashida Tlaib. She is the only Palestinian serving in Congress. She’s been an outspoken anti-semite and has offered no statement when pressed about whether she supports Hamas’ terrorist actions.
