FLINT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Flint City Council finally got around to approving an extension of the city’s waste collection contract with Priority Waste well in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

The vote came after weeks of intense debate and before a quickly approaching expiration deadline of a $4 million grant.

The revised contract extends Priority Waste’s deal with Flint through June 2028. The company will receive $6.7 million per year for hauling residential trash, recycling, and yard waste. All residences will receive new trash and recycling bins at no cost.

However, Flint City Council meetings have been marked with outbursts and drama, and Monday night was no exception. Fifth Ward Council President Ladel Lewis removed First Ward Councilman Eric Mays and Sixth Ward Councilwoman Tonya Burns from the meeting for disorderly conduct. Lewis bounced Mays from the meeting before they recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
