WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a voluntary recall by HMC Farms for fruits sold nationwide over the past 18 months, including Michigan, as they may be contaminated with Listeria.
The recall includes HMC Farms peaches, plums, and nectarines sold in retail stores between May 1 and November 15, 2022, and between May 1 and November 15, 2023. These products were sold to retail stores across the United States, and there have been reports of 11 illnesses from customers in seven states, including Michigan.
According to the FDA, Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria capable of causing severe and potentially fatal infections, especially in young children, frail or elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection encompass high fever, intense headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Additionally, Listeria poses a risk of miscarriages and stillbirths for pregnant women.
