LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – All 18 Republicans in the Michigan Senate signed a resolution Wednesday calling on Democratic U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Detroit to resign from office. The resolution came one day after the U.S. House, including 22 in Tlaib’s own party, voted to censure her for her ongoing antisemitic remarks and jihadist rhetoric.
The Republicans said Tlaib, who is the only Palestinian member of Congress, had an “insensitive and inappropriate” response to the Israel-Hamas war.

The resolution reads, “Whereas, Representative Tlaib’s hurtful comments and behavior have been widely condemned by people of multiple faiths and elected officials from both parties.” It goes on to say, “Her statements have caused great pain for untold numbers of Michiganders …”
The resolution is led by Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt (R-Porter Township).
Meanwhile in Washington, six of Tlaib’s Democratic colleagues from Michigan did not vote to censure her, with them all citing some form of “free speech.”
Last week, a similar censure measure came up in the U.S. House for Tlaib, but this time it said she triggered an insurrection on October 18 while speaking at a pro-Hamas rally in D.C. The House failed to pass that measure, with GOP Representatives from Michigan Bill Huizenga, John Moolenaar, and Tim Walberg voting against it. They reversed their votes with the second censure measure.
