WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – Despite the White House celebrating recent electoral victory, the presidential news for President Biden has been looking grim ever since the recent New York Times/Siena College poll came out saying that he was behind in a hypothetical matchup with Trump in many swing states.

The “Dump Biden” movement has been growing louder with Democrats like former Obama political consultant David Axelrod and others adding to the chorus, telling Joe to look introspectively to decide if running again is good for him – and for the country.

With a seven-month low approval rating of only 39%, Democrats are finding it more acceptable to question if Biden should be running for another term – and are more open to criticize the current president on his approach to his presidential campaign.

That includes Debbie Dingell, a Democratic U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 6th congressional district who was recently on CNN talking with journalist Phil Mattingly.

Mattingly asked Dingell if she agreed with the assessments from some of her fellow Democrats about whether Biden is the best messenger and if he can connect with Michigan voters with his legislative record.

Although Dingell said there is “nobody better” than Biden to appeal to union workers, she also added, “Look, I’m not gonna lie to you: I’m the one that said to everybody six months ago, ‘We’ve got a problem.’ I’m the one that told everybody there’s going to be a UAW (United Auto Workers) strike. But I’m also gonna tell you that you need to get in the (union) halls. And you know where my gut comes from, where I tell you all where we are: It’s because before the pandemic … (I’d) go in union halls every single weekend.”

She added, “I’d talk to those men and women that are doing those everyday jobs that keep this country going…And Joe Biden does talk to them. He knows how to talk to them. Unfortunately he’s, at times, kept in a bubble.”

That bubble was evident when Biden showed up in Michigan during the UAW strike and only spent 12 minutes on the picket line and spoke for a mere 87 seconds.

Dingell continued, “Look, I think it’s great he goes to Delaware and Pennsylvania, but I want to see him get into a lot more of these Midwest states. When you see Joe Biden, when you talk to Joe Biden, you really do know who he is…”

When asked by Mattingly why Biden is kept in a bubble, Dingell answered, “Well, you know, we’re coming out of a pandemic. There’ve been a lot of – now we’ve got … major, major world crises that, quite frankly, are going to be one of the issues in Michigan. I’m not going to lie about that, either. We’ve got very intense feelings on all sides. And it’s hard to be the President of the United States, because you do have to worry about security. I think his people need to get out into the field more and be talking about these issues.”

According to Dingell, it sounds like Biden, if he continues to run for president, shouldn’t be doing a “basement” campaign like he did during the pandemic. Unlike others in the party, Dingell thinks that the president should be seen and heard more – not less – to be able to keep his job in the Oval Office.
