LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A recent Forbes Health survey found that Americans are once again hoping to improve their health during the upcoming year, with physical fitness returning as the top goal after beating out last year’s top goal of improved mental health.

Respondents were also looking for financial improvements, which moved mental health down to the third item on the list. About half of those polled said that physical and mental health were of equal importance.

Other popular goals included losing weight, improving diet, making more time for loved ones, and cutting out smoking.

Some of the least popular goals that appeared in the poll were drinking less alcohol and performing better at work, which only made the list for 3% of those polled.

Only 20% of respondents say they’ll hold themselves responsible for meeting their goals, which marks a significant decline from the previous year’s 77%.  About 80% of respondents feel confident in their ability to reach their goals,

Still, only 13% of respondents will stick to their goals for four months, according to the poll, while only 6% turn their goals into permanent habits.

Most Americans are planning to set four goals, with 86% setting more than one goal. That’s up from 2020, according to a New Urban Plates/Ipsos poll, where only 18% of respondents said they had multiple goals.

Historical poll data revealed that younger adults, parents, and repeat goal-setters are more likely to set goals than other groups.
