LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is addressing the growing problem of wrong-way driving by installing new signs with red flashing lights.
The signs will be installed in the western part of the state to begin with and will activate if a driver is going the wrong way on the road or a freeway ramp. MDOT says cameras will also be installed with the signs to help police locate wrong way drivers quicker. The program may extend to Metro Detroit if MDOT can secure funding.

Michigan State Police reported Michigan saw nearly 6,300 wrong-way crashes in 2022. That’s an increase of almost 10% from 2021, which saw just over 5,800 wrong-way crashes across the state.
