WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – This year’s “antisemite of the year” title goes to Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit), who beat out Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and supermodel Gigi Hadid for the award. Kanye West had the title in 2022. With over 15,000 votes tallied, Tlaib, in the end, won the “dishonor.”

Who decided that Congresswoman Tlaib won the antisemite title?

The group behind the Antisemite of the Year award is a grassroots watchdog organization called “StopAntisemitism.” They are a leading non-partisan U.S. based organization fighting antisemitism, dedicated to holding antisemites accountable and creating consequences for their actions. Their website keeps track of antisemitic incidents and displays a map of where they have happened. Executive Director Liora Rez exposes Jew-hatred through social media, blog posts and other channels.

The 2023 winner of “antisemite of the year” was announced by Rez on Monday on the Megyn Kelly Show. She was on the show with Kelly to talk about Tlaib and the antisemitism that has rocked the United States since the October 7th massacre in Israel.

Tlaib ignores questions about the killing of babies in Israel

While Rez was on the program, Kelly played a video of Tlaib being asked about the children who were murdered during the massacre. The reporter, who was trying to get a comment from the congresswoman, said that Hamas terrorists had “cut off babies’ heads and burned children alive.”

The reporter asked Tlaib, “Do you support Israel’s rights to defend themselves about this brutality?” Tlaib ignored the reporter, running away from her inside of an airport instead of condemning the killing of babies and the raping of women.

Antisemitic incidents are skyrocketing

According to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), antisemitic incidents have skyrocketed 360% after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, including more than 500 incidents that have occurred on college campuses and over 240 that were in K-12 schools. ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt says, “The American Jewish community is facing a threat level that’s now unprecedented in modern history.”

Physical assaults, vandalism, harassment and protests

Those threats, according to the ADL, include as of January 9th: 60 incidents of physical assault; 553 incidents of vandalism; 1,353 incidents of verbal or written harassment; and 1,317 rallies/protests, including antisemitic rhetoric, expressions of support for terrorism against the state of Israel and/or anti-Zionism.

Some of these threats are exacerbated by what is considered by some as anti-Israel rhetoric coming out of the mouths of politicians like Michigan’s Tlaib.

StopAntisemitism says in a social media post on X, “Congresswoman Tlaib’s well-earned dishonor reflects a long history of antisemitism, but her statements in the wake of Hamas’s October 7 attacks were particularly unconscionable. She not only victim-blamed Israel, but she also accused it of committing genocide against the Palestinians and continues to defend calls to ethnically cleanse Israel of Jews through genocide.”

What has Rep. Tlaib been saying and doing?

StopAntisemitism has a long list of why Tlaib won the top spot by recounting how as soon as she took office, she replaced Israel on her office map with “Palestine.”

In 2019, Tlaib was barred from entering Israel due to her support of the antisemitic BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions).

In 2021, Tlaib voted against funding the Iron Dome and claimed that Israel was an apartheid state on the House floor.

in July of this year, Tlaib voted against a bill that asserted that Israel is not a racist or apartheid state and rejected all forms of antisemitism and xenophobia.

False accusations by Tlaib against Israel

Additionally, Tlaib falsely accused the Jewish state of bombing a hospital, an incident later proven to be the result of a failed rocket launch by Palestinian terrorists. Despite the evidence, Tlaib persisted in her attacks against Israel, including endorsing false and incendiary claims of genocide.

Then on November 3, Tlaib released a video accusing President Biden of supporting “the genocide of the Palestinian people” and calling for a ceasefire without mentioning the removal of Hamas terrorists or the return of hostages still being held in Gaza, including Americans.

Antisemitic rhetoric

StopAntisemitism also says that Tlaib posted on the social media platform X, “From the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate.” However, the group says that in reality, the phrase mirrors Hamas’ battle cry for the full removal of the Jewish state.

The group StopAntisemitism also reminds everyone that exactly one month after Hamas’s October 7 attacks, Tlaib was censured for her antisemitic remarks by both Republicans and Democrats, becoming only the 26th member of the House of Representatives in U.S. history to be censured by her peers.

StopAntisemitism says, “This is a historically dangerous time for American Jews. Amid an explosion in antisemitic incidents and hate crimes, we can’t afford to have our elected representatives adding fuel to the fire!”
