LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Three more Michigan lawmakers have sent a letter to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and asked her to deploy National Guard troops to the southern U.S. border.

Representatives Neil Friske (R-Charlevoix), Matt Maddock (R-Milford), and James DeSana (R-Carleton) called the situation a “grave national security risk.”

“We as members of the 102nd Legislature call upon you to aid Texas in securing our Southern Border,” the representatives said in their letter. “For far too long our southern border has been left wide open for anyone to cross. This poses a grave national security risk as we have seen people who are on the FBI’s Most Wanted list crossing into the country via the southern border.”

This letter is the second in five days sent to the Governor.

Late last week, Rep. Angela Rigas asked Whitmer to join two dozen other states in sending troops to the border and deviate from the Biden administration in its stance regarding the border policy.

The representatives pointed out the “mass amounts of narcotics showing up on our streets” which are flowing into the country through the southern border. “In Fiscal Year 2023, Customs and Border Patrol seized 27,293 pounds of Fentanyl enough to kill 6 billion people,” the letter read.

In addition to drugs, the letter emphasized how crime Michigan homeless shelters are overrun with illegal immigrants.  “We have also seen reports of buses of illegal immigrants being brought into places like Grand Rapids and Traverse City,” the letter read. “Just last week a world terrorist watch suspect was arrested in Michigan.”
