SAGINAW, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Saginaw marks President Joe Biden’s next campaign stop in the Wolverine State and his first time back since the Presidential Primary.

The anticipated visit on March 14, comes after Biden earned the Democratic bid in the presidential primary with 81% of the vote, according to unofficial results. However, more than 100,000 people, or 13%, voted “uncommitted” in protest of President Biden’s stance on the conflict in the Middle East.

One of the biggest advocates of voting “uncommitted” in the presidential primary was Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) for the president’s refusal to call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War.

“We don’t want a country that supports wars and bombs and destruction,” Tlaib said ahead of the primary. “We want to support life, we want to stand up for every single life killed in Gaza… This is the way you can raise our voices. Don’t make us even more invisible right now. We feel completely neglected and just unseen by our government. If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted.”

“Listen to Michigan” weighed in.

Despite Vice President Kamala Harris demanding a six week ceasefire, the group promoting the “uncommitted” vote, Listen to Michigan, weighed in on the terms of ceasefire.

“Despite the naysayers in the establishment, the Biden administration is moving because of the pressure from uncommitted Democrats,” Layla Elabed, campaign manager for Listen To Michigan said in a statement. “But let’s be clear: this is a temporary ceasefire, or what they used to call a humanitarian pause.”

According to Elabed, who is Rep. Tlaib’s sister, the proposed ceasefire deal falls short of the group’s demands.

“Our movement’s demands have been clear: a lasting ceasefire and an end to US funding for Israel’s war and occupation against the Palestinian people,” Elabed said in a statement. “Time is running out: for Gaza and our democracy.”

As the results of Super Tuesday come to light, roughly 1,000 delegates have been awarded to former President Donald Trump, with 1,215 delegates needed to win the nomination.

After Trump won the majority of voters’ support, GOP Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley dropped out of the presidential race on Wednesday.

“It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him. And I hope he does that,” she said according to the Associated Press. “At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause, not turning them away. And our conservative cause badly needs more people.”

The former United Nations Ambassador and Governor of South Carolina did not endorse Trump in her speech.
