ST. LOUIS, MO (Michigan News Source) – The NCAA Basketball tournament may be heading into its second weekend of play, but the NCAA Hockey tournament will be dropping the puck on its opening round beginning Thursday.

Four teams from Michigan have made the tournament.

The Michigan State Spartans come in as the highest-ranked Michigan team after winning the regular season and tournament Big 10 titles. They will face Western Michigan in the opening round.

The University of Michigan will play North Dakota and Michigan Tech, out of the Upper Peninsula, will play number one-ranked Boston College.

Western Michigan, Michigan State and the University of Michigan are playing in the NCAA tournament regional in suburban St. Louis, Missouri at an arena with just 25-hundred permanent seats and three-thousand-148 capacity with standing room only tickets.

Attendance at the regional games since 2018 has averaged between seven-thousand and 13-thousand. The arena is the practice facility for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues.
