SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Spring officially arrives at 11:06 p.m. on Tuesday night, and one Upper Peninsula university will celebrate with an annual tradition.
Lake Superior State University will hold its Snowman Burning on campus at 5:30pm.
The event, which first started in 1971, has become a staple in the Sault Ste. Marie community as a way to say goodbye to winter, and hello to spring.
The sacrificial Snowman stands around 11 feet tall, is quite husky, and is made out of wood and paper destined for the recycling bin.
