Empire, MI (Michigan News Source) – A black bear stole a 50-pound bag of sugar from Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate in Empire last week.
The bear only took the bag of sugar after getting in through the back door and took it to the sidewalk to eat it. The staff says the bear visited the store five straight evenings last week before making its way into the store and was inside for less than 20 seconds to grab the bag of sugar.

They reinforced the door the next day to keep the bear out and contacted the DNR because they want the bear to be safe.
Because the bear has the ability to open doors, and apparently a sweet tooth, a DNR wildlife team plans to live-trap the bear and take it at least 60 miles from town.
