ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – An illegal Mexican national who police say broke into a home in March and sexually assaulted two young girls has been charged and arraigned in St. Joseph County.

In addition, the St, Joseph County Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Miguel Hernandez-Ruiz is being held on an Immigration Detainer following the December 2021 expiration of a temporary work visa. He lived in Sturgis. He is being held in custody with no bond and he will be back in court on April 30.

Police say Hernandez-Ruiz eluded police for several days before being captured and jailed in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He fought extradition to Michigan.

“Thanks to the meticulous planning, execution, and collaboration between multiple law enforcement partners, a dangerous predator is in custody,” said St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman.
