PONTIAC, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After a morning of emotional victim impact statements, an Oakland County judge sentenced the parents of the Oxford High School shooter to at least 10 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.

Tuesday’s sentencing came after separate juries found James and Jennifer Crumbley guilty earlier this year of four counts of involuntary manslaughter stemming from the November 2021 shooting carried out by their son. He killed four students and injured seven other people. He is serving life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors argued that both Crumbley parents purchased the gun he used in the shooting and ignored his cries for help when it came to his mental health.

This marks the first time the parents of a U.S. school shooter have been charged, convicted, and sentenced in connection with that shooting.
