MONROE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Birthday party guests in Monroe County quickly turned to mourning after a car plowed into the celebration killing two children and injuring nine others at the Swan Boat Club on Saturday afternoon.

Who was charged in crash that killed two and injured nine others?

Today, Marshella Chidester 66, has been arraigned on several charges including second degree murder in the deaths of two young children, a brother and sister, and the injuring of several others including the mother and brother of those killed.

The Monroe County Prosecutor is charging Chidester with eight crimes, including;

· Two counts of second-degree murder — which carries a punishment of up to life in prison.

· Two counts of operating under the influence of liquor causing death – which carries a punishment of up to 15 years in prison.

· Four counts of operating under the influence of liquor causing serious injury – which carries a punishment of up to 5 years in prison.

Bond was set at $1.5 million. Chidester faces life in prison if convicted.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, two siblings, ages 8 and 4, were pronounced dead on the scene.

Sheriff Troy Goodnough provided an update indicating the condition of the nine other individuals harmed in the crash.

Who are the injured?

In total, nine individuals were transported via ambulance or air ambulance service to local hospitals:

  • 31-year-old female who remains in critical condition
  • 11-year-old male who remains in critical condition
  • 18-year-old female in serious condition
  • 16-year-old female in serious condition
  • 14-year-old male in serious condition
  • 70-year-old female with minor injuries
  • 66-year-old female with minor injuries
  • 62-year-old female with minor injuries
  • 57-year-old female with minor injuries

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department also mentioned that a 42-year-old male got treatment on his own for minor injuries.

As previously reported, two victims were pronounced deceased at the scene, siblings 8- year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips.
