MONROE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A Monroe County woman accused of slamming her vehicle into the Swan Boat Club last Saturday, killing two siblings, and injuring a dozen others, has been released on a $1.5 million bond.

The attorney for 66-year-old Marshella Chidester, Bill Colovos,  said she was released two days after her arraignment in Monroe County District Court. She faces a variety of charges, including two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of driving while intoxicated causing death. The two siblings, 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips, were killed. Their mother, Mariah Dodds and her 11-year-old son survived. He is facing serious injuries including broken legs and ribs and a fractured skull.

Colovos is arguing that Chidester suffers from “epileptic type seizures” in her legs, a problem he said started in November. He said she had only one glass of wine that day. He said she is “very remorseful.”

Medical reports are pending that would determine Chidester’s blood alcohol level at the time of the crash.
