SANDUSKY, Ohio (Michigan News Source) – Visitors to Cedar Point who planned on riding the Top Thrill 2 will have to wait.
Cedar Point announced the ride has shut down indefinitely, just over a week into the park’s reopening for the season. Officials said on social media that a “mechanical modification” forced the closure of the ride.

“We know our guests are excited to experience this incredible roller coaster, and we share your disappointment that we are not able to operate it this weekend,” a statement said.
The park advertises Top Thrill 2 as “the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch strata coaster.” It stands 420 feet tall, and the 2-minute ride reaches up to 120 miles per hour.
This is not the first time the ride has faced troubles. The Top Thrill Dragster ride closed in 2021 after a metal bracket fell from the roller coaster and severely injured a Michigan woman while she stood in line. A state report said a bolt holding the bracket in place failed; it did not find evidence of illegal conduct by the park, not should park officials have believed the ride was unsafe.
