IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Residents in the Upper Peninsula will now receive their mail after it’s rerouted to Green Bay, Wisconsin for processing, then returned to Michigan.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is moving forward with operational changes at the Iron Mountain Processing and Distribution Center. Those changes include transferring mail processing outgoing operations to a facility in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Yoopers have voiced concerns over the impending change for months. They say it could significantly impact timeliness of mail delivery, along with postal jobs, since the reroute sends the mail 100 miles away to be processed.

The USPS says the change will streamline packaging and save an upwards of $1.5 million each year. In addition, officials said much of the mail is delivered outside of the Iron Mountain region.
