LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A new apprenticeship program for Michigan Army National Guard recruits and Air National Guard service members could be in the works if a bill makes its way to the Governor’s desk.
State Rep. Jaime Greene (R-Richmond), a U.S. Navy veteran, is proposing the training and experience gained during service in the Michigan Army National Guard and Air National Guard would count toward certain apprenticeship certifications. These certifications would translate into opportunities for career advancement in high-demand fields.

“We are immensely proud of our Guardsmen here in Michigan,” said Greene. “This program offers them a valuable opportunity for career advancement. It’s one way to show our support for those who serve and protect our communities.”
In addition, House Bill 5703 allows service members to pursue professional development without financial burden. On-the-job learning will be integrated into duty hours under the direction of the service member’s supervisor.
