TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Filmmaker and Director Michael Moore recently made a bold statement during a virtual appearance on CNN, delivering a stark warning to President Joe Biden: continuing support for Israel could cost him the upcoming election. Moore’s message on CNN was straightforward: if Biden wants to secure his position in November, he must cease support for Israel and push for an immediate ceasefire.

Moore defends protesters’ rights.

During his interview on The Source with Kaitlan Collins on Monday, April 29th, 70-year-old Moore, sporting a University of Michigan ball cap, addressed accusations of antisemitism at various college protests across the country. He said that most protesters don’t agree with Hamas and he defended their rights of free speech and free assembly.

Poll: Large majority of voters under 30 don’t support Biden’s handling of Israel-Hamas conflict.

Moore pointed to a CNN poll indicating that over 80% of voters under 30 disapprove of Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict and Gaza strikes. He emphasized that Biden’s chances of reelection are significantly jeopardized by these numbers, particularly as he has lost support among Arab-American voters in Michigan and is failing to rally the youth vote.

Directly addressing Biden, Moore left no room for ambiguity: “I know we’re speaking to millions of people, but I’d like to speak to one particular individual and that is President Biden.”

Moore, who had previously warned Biden through his Rumble podcast and contributed to organizing an “uncommitted” voting movement against the president in Michigan, cautioned that Biden’s reelection prospects were rapidly diminishing due to his stance on Israel, especially among youth and Arab-American voters.

“Uncommitted” movement continues.

The uncommitted movement that originated in Michigan has now gained traction nationally, with Democrats expressing their dissatisfaction with Biden’s support for Israel through “uncommitted” votes and slogans like “Genocide Joe Has Got to Go.” In total, the movement has led to about 600,000 “uncommitted” Democrat votes across the country in different states.

Moore warns President Biden.

Moore reiterated his message directly to the president, urging him to recognize the consequences of his apparent pro-Israel statements and actions: “President Biden, you could end this now. You know it’s wrong, I know you know it’s wrong. I know I sound like a broken record and I know you know you’re going to lose this election, in part because too many people are going to stay home. They’re not going to vote for Trump. They’re not going to switch their vote from Trump to you, no, that is not how this is going to play out.”

Moore’s concerns are echoed by groups like the College Democrats of America, who warned Biden and other Democrats recently that their votes should not be taken for granted.

Despite Israel’s justification for strikes aimed at Hamas after the October 7th assault that claimed the lives of more than 1,200 individuals, and regardless of Hamas’ history of using civilians as shields, Moore argued for an end to the mass civilian casualties in Gaza, branding it a violation of “core principles.”

Moore defends “From the River to the Sea” slogan.

Moore also defended protesters and their use of the controversial “From the River to the Sea” slogan, asserting that they represent a significant voting bloc that Biden cannot afford to alienate.

Talking about the Gen Z protesters on CNN only a day before 100 students were arrested after NYPD stormed the occupied Hamilton Hall and lawn encampment, Moore had claimed, “None of them are committing any acts of violence, none of them are destroying the university. Worst maybe, in some people’s minds, they’re doing is holding signs that say ‘Free Palestine’ or ‘From the River to the Sea.’ This is the one that is constantly being thrown out there. Oh, look at this, this sign is, is frightening all the students, ‘From the River to the Sea.’”

Moore warns of a Trump victory.

Ultimately, Moore’s message to Biden was clear: failure to adjust his Israel policy could spell disaster at the polls, particularly in crucial states like Michigan. “We’re staring down the barrel of a Trump victory if this doesn’t change,” Moore cautioned, adding “We’re going to lose the election, we’re going to lose Michigan if we don’t turn this around.”

Biden stands on both sides of the issue but is not okay with the violence.

Biden, while acknowledging the issue at college campuses around the country, has yet to take a decisive stance on either side of the issue. According to Breitbart News reports, Biden recently said, “There is no place for hate speech or violence of any kind, whether it’s anti-semitism, Islamophobia, or discrimination against Arab-Americans or Palestinian-Americans. It’s simply wrong,”

However, perhaps to the irk of many of the young voters that Moore described, Biden also said, “Vandalism, trespassing, breaking windows, shutting down campuses, forcing the cancellation of classes and graduations: none of this is a peaceful protest. Threatening people, intimidating people, instilling fear in people is not peaceful protest. It’s against the law.”

University of Michigan pro-Palestinian encampment remains.

In Michigan, the pro-Palestinian encampments that have occurred at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, the latter of which is still ongoing, has not led to the chaos, vandalism and rioting as has happened at some of the other educational institutions, however the longstanding protests highlight the divide that Moore points to among Michigan youth and the Biden administration.

Polling in Michigan shows Trump ahead of Biden in most surveys.

The results of polling data concerning Michigan’s presidential election has varied but most say that Trump is leading Biden in the presidential race. By how much is anyone’s guess. A recent poll by Kaplan Strategies has Trump ahead of Biden by a whopping 15 points; however, most polling shows a much closer race.
