DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Vice President Kamala Harris visited Detroit on Monday and announced $100 million in grants for auto suppliers as part of the Biden administration’s move to transition from gas-powered vehicles in favor of electric vehicles.
Harris’ announcement, came with support from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm. She is now Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy. In addition, automotive suppliers are set to receive additional support from the Small Business Administration.

“This investment will help to keep our auto supply chains here in America … and keep those jobs here in Detroit,” Harris said at the event held at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
EV vehicles have been a pet project of both Whitmer and Granholm.
Pro-Palestinian protestors greeted Harris as she arrived. They have been protesting nationwide in opposition to the Biden administration’s stance on the Israeli-Hamas war.
