WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – It’s not every day you hear the phrase “trillion-dollar savings” and think, “Yeah, that actually might happen.” But thanks to a government task force led by billionaire Elon Musk called DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), what once sounded like a sci-fi fantasy is now a reality.

On January 20th, on President Donald J. Trump’s first day in office, he signed an executive order establishing DOGE within the government, integrating it into the U.S. Digital Service. This marked the formal start of DOGE’s operations under Musk’s leadership, tasked with slashing federal spending and restructuring agencies.

Blazing through governmental departments at record speed, at the time of the publishing of this article, DOGE has already found $160 Billion in savings so far in their first 100 days on their road to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars.

President Trump’s mission to Save America with the help of DOGE.

Musk describes the mission of DOGE as something that is necessary to make sure the federal government doesn’t collapse and disappear into the oblivion. He told Brett Baier in a Fox News exclusive in March, “This is a revolution, and I think it might be the biggest revolution in the government since the original revolution.”

That’s right – Elon Musk and his team of brainy reformers, including a literal rocket scientist, are dragging the federal government out of the 1980s, one floppy disk at a time. They’ve already entered more than 20 government agencies to access, review, and update outdated computer systems. The DOGE team’s mission? Cut waste, fraud, and abuse – something former Democratic presidents like Obama and Clinton once championed.

Progressives panic as DOGE declaws the bureaucratic beast.

However, Democrats aren’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for Musk and his team. Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has gone full dramatic, calling DOGE an “unelected shadow government” and warned, “To give DOGE a choke hold on Treasury payments is outlandishly dangerous. It’s like letting a tiger into a petting zoo and hoping for the best.”

Democrats have framed DOGE as an unelected band of teenagers who, with the help of Musk, are slashing needed humanitarian projects at home and abroad, firing people on a whim, cancelling contracts, terminating leases, and targeting important departments for demise.

Because of their opposition, lawsuits have been flying fast and furious in order to stop Musk and Trump in their tracks. The bottom line? Progressives are unhappy that what many perceive as a Democrat slush fund supplied by taxpayer dollars, is quickly coming to an end. Because of this, Democrats have been stirring up dissension in their base and fear mongering their supporters into protesting DOGE, Elon and the Tesla brand for removal.

Dinosaurs in the government.

The big news that no one is paying attention to? Decades and decades of the feds using antiquated computer systems. But that is changing, thanks to DOGE.

DOGE is a tech-heavy dream team of engineers, billionaires, and bureaucratic wranglers who are cleaning up decades of waste, fraud and abuse through technology. Their secret sauce? Making government computers talk to each other.

“The biggest vulnerability for fraud is the fact that these databases don’t talk to each other,” said Elon Musk in the Fox News exclusive. “We’re doing the painful homework to fix that.”

“The computers can’t talk to each other, so people can game the gaps,” said one engineer. “Fix the data connections, and you kill billions in fraud.”

The ACTUAL people behind DOGE and what they’re doing.

Unlike the Democrats’ characterization of who the DOGE team consists of, the truth is that the top DOGE workers are a very smart – and wealthy– group of patriotic folks who want to save the country. It’s been reported that there are about 79 appointed employees in the DOGE team. Many of the main players are sacrificing their time and own money in what they all see is an effort to save the country.

The DOGE team, of course, includes Musk until around the end of May, who is considered a “special government employee.” That allows him to work on government business for 130 days in a 265-day period. Musk, for his part, has said that he will be cutting back his time with DOGE soon and concentrating on Tesla.

The team to fix the problem:

So who are the great minds behind the revolution to overhaul the computer systems and bring the government into the 21st century?

Steve Davis (actual rocket scientist): Davis is the COO of DOGE, handling day-to-day operations. For more than 20 years, he has collaborated with Musk on various projects, such as SpaceX, the Boring Company, and Twitter (now X). When asked why he joined the team Davis said the goal of DOGE was “incredibly inspiring.” He told Baier, “I think most of the taxpayers in the country would agree that in order to have the country going bankrupt would be a very bad thing, and therefore the country going not bankrupt is a good thing…that all of us are willing to kind of put our lives on hold in order to do, I think, the thing that’s special right now is we actually believe there’s a chance to succeed.”

Engineer Aram Moghadassi: A software engineer, Moghadassi also worked at several of Musk’s ventures, including X, xAI, and Neuralink. In the Baier interview, he highlighted that 40% of incoming calls to Social Security are from fraudulent sources, leading to scams. This is because the databases across the different departments don’t talk with each other.

Brad Smith: Smith has a background in health care entrepreneurship and has been linked to various health-related ventures. He served on the COVID-19 task force, collaborating with figures like Jared Kushner to manage the U.S. response to the pandemic. He’s working with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He said goals include making sure America continues to have the best biomedical research in the world and protecting Medicare and Medicaid.

Smith is the one who blew the news of the database issue wide open, exposing the fact that there are 700 different IT systems just at the NIH (National Institutes of Health), systems that don’t speak to each other, therefore aren’t able to collaborate to make great medical discoveries. He added that there are 27 different Chief Information Officers. This reiterates what Musk has said in the past: the DOGE folks are “technical support” to get the federal government out of the ’80’s.

Davis, Moghadassi and Smith are just three members of the DOGE team who appeared in the Baier interview with Musk to talk about what they are working on – and what they are working on is fixing the obsolete systems in the government. Musk says that America will be insolvent if things continue as they are. With government systems not speaking with each other, it opens up ripe opportunities for fraud. Whether things have been kept that way on purpose or not is a discussion for another day.

New tracking tools.

In a series of updates announced recently, DOGE explained how they are using the Treasury Access Symbol (TAS) to better track government payments back to specific budget line items, creating more accountability. Even more notably, the Treasury just launched its first automated payment verification system, which flagged and blocked $334 million in improper payment requests in its very first week. These moves mark a major shift toward modernizing financial oversight and stopping taxpayer dollars from slipping through the cracks.

A battle for the government’s future.

What is the DOGE team hoping to accomplish? Not just rooting out waste, fraud and abuse and not just saving America trillions of dollars. It’s bigger than that. They’re adamant that they are saving the government through IT (information technology).

And although Democrats support the growth and stability of the federal government, they have opposed this effort. Critics argue that it’s because longstanding instances of waste, fraud, and abuse – whether accidental or intentional – have historically benefited the Democratic Party.

That’s most likely why the Democratic party and their friends in the media have defined Musk as a shadowy operation and a threat to democracy – and have even targeted Musk personally and professionally at his Tesla corporation.

The revolution.

The revolution the DOGE team is working on is not glamorous work. It’s not even fast with Musk admitting that DOGE is “moving like lightning by government standards, but slower than I’d like.” But it’s moving.

Revolution. It’s a big word. But when you take a closer look at what the DOGE team is actually pulling off, it might just fit.
