ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Ann Arbor Public Schools budgeted $3.67 million to spend on four rooftop solar arrays it says will make it “the largest K-12 public school district owner/operator of solar in the State of Michigan.”
The district has proposals to install solar photovoltaic panels on the roof of Clague Middle School, Skyline High School, Freeman Environmental Education Center and the Transportation South Bus Lot.

“In keeping with the district’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and lower operating costs, the planned rooftop solar installations will add 1024 kilowatts (kW) of AC output capacity in the district, producing enough electricity annually to power over 220 homes, and sequestering the carbon equivalent of over 1365
acres of forest each year,” Superintendent Jazz Parks said in an memo.
As of February, the district has already installed 12 rooftop solar arrays with 2.1 megawatts of capacity. The district said that the 2.1 megawatts was enough to charge the batteries of about 40 electric cars or power more than 1,000 homes.
The Ann Arbor school district has stated that there is a “climate crisis.”
